Despite 24-hours notice, Ivan Alvarez more than made up for being a late replacement in Clarence "Bones" Adams' WBA super-bantamweight title defense Friday at Owensboro, Ky. Alvarez, originally from Colombia but now living in Miami, lost a unanimous decision, but not before testing Adams throughout the 12 round bout. Alvarez (18-6) had Adams (41-3-3) in danger of losing his crown until fading late. Alvarez, who two weeks earlier won a 12-round decision over Hugo Romero in Homestead, became Adams' foe after three others withdrew. |
